සම්පූර්ණ විස්තරය
Godawaya Shipwreck, ca. 2nd Century CE
These circular glass objects were first thought to be functional pulleys. However, specialists have identified them as ear ornaments—jewelry traditionally worn in Southeast Asian and other indigenous cultures, where large earrings or plugs were inserted into stretched earlobes. Their presence in the Godawaya shipwreck highlights not only the movement of raw materials such as glass across the Indian Ocean, but also the circulation of ornaments and cultural traditions that connected South Asia with wider Southeast Asian communities.
