Full Description

This elegant earthenware vessel has a Parthian (247 BCE – 226 CE) or Sassanian (224–637 CE) origin. It was likely used to store olive oil or another type of liquid. This terracotta object bears characteristics of a vessel type known as the amphora, which was widely circulated from the Mediterranean region to South Asia. It was discovered in 1982 from the southern vahalkada (facade) of the Jetavanarama Monastery in Anuradhapura.
