Full Description

Two foolish brothers leave their village because of a drought and come to the performance arena. They are given a piece of land and build a house there. The elder brother marries a beautiful young woman named Etanahami. She is unhappy in her marriage because she did not know about her husband’s foolish behavior before marriage. Meanwhile, the village head (Mulaadaniya) tries to get close to her, but she does not strongly reject him. To trick the two brothers, the village head makes a plan. He tells them that they must guard an empty paddy field at night by order of the king. When the brothers are away from home, the village head secretly visits Etanahami. He is very careful because if people find out, he will lose his reputation and position.

While the brothers are guarding the field, the moonlight makes them think it is daylight, so they return home early. Their sudden arrival makes Etanahami and the village head panic. The village head hides under a cloth. Later, he quickly escapes, and Etanahami hides under the same cloth, pretending to be unconscious. To solve the situation, a devil exorcist (yakadura), who is a friend of the village head, is called. He examines her and says that a ritual (tovil) must be performed. During the ritual, the village head disguises himself and suddenly appears like a spirit. The frightened brothers run away in fear. Finally, Etanahami and the village head dance, and along with the exorcist, they leave the stage together.
