Full Description
Cannons are huge and heavy guns.As they were operated by foot or were designed to be easily taken from place to place, they were called Kaal tuppakku in Tamil. The Sinhala term kaala tuwakku was derived from this tamil usage. Comparatively larger cannons were produced in the fifteenth century and some of them were about 8 tonnes in weight. Descriptions in Rajavaliya suggest that locally manufactured cannons were used in fights with the poruguese.
