Historical Context This green-glazed ware vessel dates to the era of the Sassanian Empire (224–637 CE), a powerful Persian dynasty renowned for its advances in art, architecture, medicine, and trade. The vessel’s discovery at the ancient hospital site in Mihintale — one of the earliest known medical centers in Sri Lanka — highlights important cultural and commercial connections between South Asia and the Greater Middle East during the early medieval period.
